Newels, in addition to being decorative, provide the majority of structural rigidity in a balustrade system. You must select the proper size newel and the best mounting method for your site conditions. Please see "newel fasteners" for different styles of newel mounting hardware for virtually any sub floor system.

This page is divided into two sections; Post to Post newels and Over the Post newels. Each Post to Post newel profile includes a variety of overall lengths and top block lengths for specific applications. Many of the Post to Post newels are available with more than one style of newel top (finial). We also offer a Rope Twist carving in most of our newel profiles.

Our Over the Post newel profiles include a variety of overall lengths but no top blocks. This is because all Over the Post Balustrades use fittings. Please see our "handrail fittings" for a full line of different fittings in most handrail profiles.

Didn�t choose a custom carving for your balusters because of budget? No problem! A particularly cost effective way to set your balustrade apart is to use a Stair Warehouse newel post. Many of our newel posts are available fluted, reeded, twist, with a beautiful sophisticated octagonal cut or a rope twist. We can also custom turn newel posts in larger sizes if you need something bigger than a standard 3 to 3-1/2" newel post.

And what about newel tops? Did Grandma and Grandpa have a newel top that you remember running your hand around as you ran up and down their staircase on summer vacation? Many of our newels come with optional tops; in fact, we give you more choices than anyone else in the industry!
