Stainless steels are metal alloys based on iron, chromium, carbon and other elements - mainly nickel, molybdenum, manganese and silicon, which makes them particularly resistant to certain types of corrosion.
AISI 304 is the greatest stainless success story. It accounts for more than 50% of all stainless steel produced worldwide. You may already have experience with AISI 304 stainless steel and its properties. Chances are some of your cutlery (look for the telltale 18/8 or 18/10 designation), your saucepans or even your sink may be fabricated from AISI 304.
In chloride or salty environments, 304 is subject to corrosion. We do not recommend it's use for projects close to swimming pools, seaside or exterior environments because even the pollution of the atmosphere must be taken into consideration and in certain cases can be quite aggressive and could compromise the anticorrosive property of the material. For above mentioned applications we stronly suggest the use of stainless steel grade AISI 316.
It is recommended to stock, work and assemble all stainless steel elements in such a way that they do not get in contact with residues, dusts or tools previously used to work with normal iron/carbon steel products.
NEW!!! - Grade 441 Ferritic Stainless Steel Handrail Tube now available. Grade TP 441 is a new series of ferritic steel which can replace the austenitic type 304 steel, thus allowing a considerable reduction in cost (due to the absence of Nickel) while granting the resistance to the corrosion to which interior stainless steel is normally subjected. The surface finish of Grade 441 is of a high quality typical for stainless steel while the resistance to corrosion is ensured by titanium and nobelium, two stabilizing elements that also allow for a superior welding capability.
